The Fatboy Conspiracy

Here is a short mockumentary I made in Summer 2011.

Slow Screen

Experimenting with the slowing of image and sound to see how it can change tone and meaning.

So...

i've been getting a lot of this lately:
"美麗的事物是永恆的快樂,它的可愛日有增加,不會消逝而".

Unfortunately on my computer, the chinese language appears as little boxes with numbers in. So that kind of maths-based comment system is pretty much lost on me. Those crazy Chinese. Luckily for me though, this minor grievance is slightly alleviated by the fact that some of these mad cats have attempted to translate their comments into (something that resembles) english! But in the form of a few rather ominous-sounding proverbs.
Here's one for your enlightenment:

'People throw stones only at trees with fruit on them'.

Which I can only decipher as meaning:
"Just be like everyone else. Don't try and do anything interesting or different because you will draw attention to yourself and be forever abused by people who don't understand you".

My general philosophy of life in a nutshell really.

Hmm

Seems I haven't had a post in four months.
I've been very busy with university work.
Or something...
Anyway, I have a few top secret projects lined up for the summer (oh summer!) so I guess i'll put up some photographic evidence of that at some point in the near future.

In the meantime, here's a song from a little blond hero of mine.

Hunter Photographer

A short video I made for my christmas project: 24 Hour Hunter Photographer. We were instructed to watch from a window over a 24 hour period -all at once or broken up- and to record our observations through any medium. I chose video but decided to concentrate mostly on the element of sound, using only what I happened to record down along with the pictures (little bit of amazing trivia, the creepy music is from Star Wars which happened to be on in the background, I slowed it waaaay down during editing). Anyway it ended up feeling a little sinister...

Universe City

Two weeks at uni now and I have found it very enjoyable. It's so good to be thinking creatively again, and I've met some cool people, so all is well. The travel is killing me though, the underground is so hot and crowded and long (both literally and in terms of boredom). I knew this already obviously, but spending hours a days having to deal with it now is a pain in the arse. Plus, i've decided that if I ever go on Room 101, oyster cards are going in. They are the most unexplained and irritating phenomena in the history of london transport. No one fucking understands them! I can't tell how much money they are taking off, and chingford doesn't even have the things to tap them on at the end of the journey, so the system just assumes you haven't paid for your journey! I tell you, it's pissing me off to an insane degree.
Sort it out, Boris.

I got a Jay Oh Bee.

That's right, i got a job. I will now be known as Jade the Barmaid. The not-very-good one. But at least my life shall contain actual occurances now! Well the pouring of various liquids into different shaped vessels and conversations with elderly gentlemen.

Birthday

It was my 19th on Saturday and Chris got me a flipping iPod shuffle and a Polaroid camera! I don't think he could have gotten it more right had he climbed into my very own brain. I'm not at all materialistic, nor do I usually get on very well with technology in general, but I bloody love these gifts.
Anyway I have yet to receive the film I ordered so i will post some pictures as soon as I feel ready to waste the expensive little buggers.

Deep Fried Love

Who knew a scientologist could be so damn cool. I can't stop listening to ol' Beck lately.

Daisy chain

It's nice to find beauty within the most mundane of objects, such as plug holes. Probably part of it was staring at the same spot for too long in the bath though.

Amanda & Gerald

I miss life drawing. It's not an exercise one can pursue in a casual fashion...

Rainbows and Monsters

I found this little collage I made at Middlesex the other day. It retains a certain retarded kind of charm I think.

'Perched upon a bust of Pallas..

.. just above my chamber door.'

Ink Drawings

Actual Goo

It's weird to see this in the flesh.
"I stole my sister's boyfriend. It was all whirlwind, heat, and flash. Within a week we killed my parents and hit the road."

Bookmaking

I've taken to making my own sketch books. It's a satisfying little process, and allows you to publish yourself, which is always nice. The only problem i've found is totally filling them up afterwards..

Autobiography

I've grown very fond of using ink recently, as I like its tendancy to have a life of its own and the fact you can use it neat or water it down to within an inch of its life.

The Raven

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
`Wretch,' I cried, `thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'
